Commitment & Application Scope
Welcome to the official Privacy Policy for ScrollCount : Reels & Shorts Tracker (Application ID: com.techhub.scrollcount), engineered and published by Krishna Tech Hub.
ScrollCount is an offline-first digital wellbeing utility created to help conscious smartphone users understand, measure, and curb doom-scrolling habits across short-video platforms (Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts). We believe your digital wellness data is strictly personal. Our core architecture guarantees that your screen time numbers belong exclusively to you.
ScrollCount operates without central user databases, without cloud synchronization, and without tracking SDKs. Everything is calculated, rendered, and maintained directly on your phone's processor.
Prominent Disclosure: Android AccessibilityService Usage
In accordance with Google Play Developer Policy regarding Accessibility APIs, we provide this comprehensive, upfront disclosure explaining our exact use of android.permission.BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE:
ScrollCount uses the Android AccessibilityService API solely to detect when Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts player viewports are actively visible and playing on your screen. This is the only technical mechanism Android provides to accurately calculate short-form video consumption without rooting your phone.
Technical Functionality & Operation
-
Targeted UI Node Inspection: The service listens for window state changes strictly to recognize the UI layout containers of Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
-
Smart 3s+ Qualification Algorithm: Rapid accidental swipes (under 3 seconds) are filtered out so that only videos you actually pause and watch are counted toward your daily scroll quota.
-
Duplicate Protection: Re-watching a looping video is recognized so that repeat views of the same clip are not falsely double-counted.
Strict Privacy Boundaries — What We NEVER Access
To ensure complete trust and security, the Accessibility Service operates with strict programmatic limitations:
-
NO Chat or Message Monitoring: The service never reads, accesses, logs, or stores direct messages (DMs), chats, comments, or personal conversations.
-
NO Keystrokes or Password Logging: The service never monitors text input fields, passwords, PINs, search queries, or banking details.
-
NO Audio, Video, or Screen Recording: The service does not capture audio streams, video frames, or screenshots of the content being viewed.
-
NO Interception Outside Short-Video Containers: When you navigate away from Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts (e.g. to your home feed, profile, or any other app), tracking is instantly dormant.
User Consent & Control: The Accessibility Service can be toggled on or off at any moment by navigating to Settings → Accessibility → ScrollCount on your Android phone.
Absolute Offline Guarantee: Zero Internet Permission
Unlike most wellbeing apps that upload analytics to cloud dashboards, ScrollCount takes an uncompromising architectural stance:
ScrollCount's AndroidManifest.xml does NOT declare android.permission.INTERNET. Under Android's security sandbox model, an application without this permission is physically prevented by the Linux operating system kernel from opening internet sockets, making HTTP requests, or transmitting data.
Even if an attacker or malicious code existed in the application, it is technically impossible for ScrollCount to communicate with remote servers or leak your statistics.

Android Permissions Breakdown
ScrollCount requests the minimum set of permissions necessary to function:
Local Data Retention & Erasure
All generated statistics (number of videos watched per day, time spent per platform, custom limit thresholds) are saved in your device's private SQLite database:
-
Private Application Sandbox: Data is locked inside Android's internal app sandbox (
/data/data/com.techhub.scrollcount/), inaccessible to other apps installed on your phone. -
Instant 1-Tap Reset: You can reset your stats or delete all recorded days at any point from ScrollCount's in-app settings.
-
Complete Erasure on Uninstall: Uninstalling ScrollCount automatically erases all databases, preferences, and cached statistics completely from flash storage.
Zero Third-Party SDKs & Zero Advertising
ScrollCount is completely self-contained:
• No Analytics Telemetry: No Google Analytics for Firebase, Mixpanel, Segment, or Flurry.
• No Social Trackers: No Meta/Facebook SDK or TikTok SDK.
• No Ad Networks: No AdMob, Start.io, Unity, or third-party ad bidding SDKs.
• No Crash Telemetry SDKs: No third-party crash reporters phoning home.
The app is clean, quiet, and operates entirely on your terms.
Children's Privacy Protection (COPPA)
ScrollCount does not collect personal information from any user, including children under 13 years of age. Because the application does not have user accounts, online messaging, or network sockets, it is fully safe for individuals of all age groups.
Global Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Under GDPR (EU) and CCPA/CPRA (California), users have the right to access, rectify, or delete their personal records:
Because we do not store, ingest, or process any information on remote servers, your statutory rights are completely honored by design: you already hold 100% of your data on your phone and can inspect or wipe it at will.
